ZANESVILLE, Ohio-  Zanesville’s Rotary Club welcomed a guest speaker to talk about domestic abuse.

Executive Director of Transitions, Mitzi Shook, spoke about domestic violence and the shelter for those who need safe housing. She said Transitions serves people who have been abused from Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan Counties.

“They come through the ZPD (Zanesville Police Department.)” said Shook. “They give us some background on what we are dealing with to find out what kind of services we need to provide immediately, and if there is an injury. A lot of people come with nothing. We are generated by donations and grants.”

Shook said Transitions is always in need of donations. She said with this organization, donations are necessary.

“We house 22 (people), and we are full 98 percent of the time,” said Shook. “We help them navigate the legal system, getting their court processes taken care of. We are supporting of them and they know someone out there who cares.”

Shook said they are in need of twin mattresses because their beds are 19 years old. To donated contact Transitions at 740-454-3213.
