Glen Alan McFarland, 85, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on July 30, 2026, in Grove City, Ohio.
Born on March 27, 1941, in Ritchie County, West Virginia, Glen was raised on a farm where he learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and family. Those early lessons shaped the course of his life and were evident in everything he did. Even in his later years, Glen remained active and dedicated, continuing to work two jobs—cleaning a two-story office building three days a week and selling pre-arranged funeral insurance. His strong work ethic never wavered, and he took pride in staying busy and providing for those he loved.
Throughout his life, Glen worked at DuPont and also owned and operated a neighborhood carryout, where he enjoyed serving and connecting with his community. He was known for his reliability, his steady presence, and his willingness to help others whenever he could.
Glen found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, camping, and cooking out, but above all else, he cherished time spent with his family. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those he loved, sharing stories, laughter, and everyday moments that became lasting memories.
He will be remembered for his dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his family. His quiet strength and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Glen is survived by his loving wife, Dianne McFarland; his daughter, Teresa (Scott) Hatzer; his sons, Scott (Brenda) McFarland and William Paul McFarland; his sister, Opal Mae Hardman; his grandchildren, William “Joey” Hatzer, Amanda Hatzer, Sarah Hatzer, Spencer McFarland, Stephanie McFarland, Bobby Malone, and Brock Malone; multiple great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. Glen is also survived by Dianne’s daughters, Stephanie (Jason), Geordis (Bobby) and son, Maecco; grandchildren, Jasmine, Shaquanda, Paris, Alexia, Jaionna, Quentin, Tyquan and Isaiah; and a beloved family friend, Harry Frush.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa “Missy” Bedsoe; his son, Glen A. McFarland II; his parents, William “Mack” and Ora McFarland; his sister, Dorothea Fleak; and his granddaughters, Samantha McFarland and Kimberly Hatzer. Glen’s legacy of hard work, love for his family, and generous heart will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
