CHARLOTTE, N.C. — 24-year old Justin Thomas captured his first major championship on Sunday afternoon at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.

Thomas started the final round two-shots behind Kevin Kisner, and one of six players in the field within four strokes of the leading man. However, a final round 68 was enough to give Thomas a two-stroke victory, and the opportunity to lift the Wanamaker Trophy as the sun set over the course.

Thomas has now won four times this season, more than any other golfer on tour.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Thomas has ties to the city of Zanesville. His grandfather, Paul, was the head pro at the Zanesville Country Club for more than 25 years. He played in the U.S. Open and was also once paired with Arnold Palmer in a Champions Tour event.

Thomas’ father, Mike, was also a member at the Zanesville Country Club. Mike was on the PGA of America’s national board from 2008-2010 and represented the PGA at the 2010 Ryder Cup while Justin competed for the United States in the Junior Ryder Cup.

Thomas is the eighth first-time champion in the last nine major competitions. He finished two strokes ahead of Francesco Molinari, Patrick Reed, and Louis Oosthuizen.
