Food feature at the Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-  The Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair is known for several things but, near the top of the list has to be food.

There are several state fair food such as deep fried Oreos, Cotton Candy, and of course funnel cakes. Funnel cake maker, Heather Leasure said the funnel cake stand, next to the grandstands, keeps it simple and traditional.

“Just pancake batter and deep fry them,” said Leasure. “You put the sugar on them. It’s just simple, hot, good, and sweet. It can get the kids kicking the whole time they are at the fair.”

Leasure said this stand has been at the fair since 1959 and funnel cakes are just a part of going to the fair.

“You can only get it one time a year unless you go to a bunch of other fairs,” said Leasure. “It’s just a part of everybody cheats fair week. It’s one time you can go and enjoy sugar and grease. Two of the best things put together.”

Funnel Cakes, and numerous other food options, are available at the fair through Saturday.
