Flooding and damage left behind by Monday night storms

NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio — Nearly an hour of continuous downpours and relentless lightning brought flooding, downed trees and power outages to parts of Perry County night.
South and east of New Lexington, radar showed a training effect of storms dumping rain over the same area for more than an hour while a similar line of storms poured rain over Fultonham and Roseville in Muskingum County, and Deavertown in Morgan County.
“A lot of flood water, that’s for sure. I have never seen it like this,” said Marvin Blosser, whose home has stood near the headwaters of the Moxahala Creek near Bristol in Perry County for nearly a century. Decades ago, the Blosser family used a wooden bridge to access their home and later replaced it with a metal culvert. “To wash this culvert out within thirty or forty years, probably. It’s everywhere between the road and the porch. Forty or fifty feet over there, probably.”
Moxahala Creek flows downstream through Moxahala, Crooksville, Roseville and near Avondale before merging with Jonathan Creek and emptying into the Muskingum River near State Route 555.
In ‘s early hours, thousands of customers of American Electric Power in Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties were in the dark due to downed trees.
