27th Annual Grace United Methodist Church Community Block Party
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Shinnick Street, in Zanesville, was the site for Grace United Methodist Church’s 27th annual Community Block Party.
The street was closed for most of the day as it hosted the morning service. It was followed by the block party featuring food, games, and music. The festivities were open to the public. Church Pastor, Mark Chow, said the community is the focus of this event.
“We realize in this location that we are right in the heart of the city,” said Pastor Chow. “We want to be a good neighbor (for the people) around us. We want to do whatever we can. There is a lot of people and a lot of need. This is one small way of reaching out to the community.”
The annual block party was started back in 1991. Co-Chairman of the outreach committee, Susan Tyson, said this event is a success every year because everyone works together.
“We need so many people to help us pull it off,” said Tyson. “We need people to serve. We need people in the kitchen getting the food ready. We need people at the grill. We need setup, and that takes a lot of brawn. Then probably the most important part is to keep it going until other churches get out. So, we can greet them and allow them to be part of our fellowship.”
Pastor Chow welcomes anyone to visit Grace United Methodist Church.
