5K run/walk for the Gilkerson family

DUNCAN FALLS, Ohio- The 5K run and walk in memory of a Philo Cross Country runner was held August 27th.
The run for Skyler Gilkerson, who died in a car accident on August 5th, raised over $2,000 for the Gilkerson Family. Gilkerson would have been a junior at Philo High School. Philo Cross Country Head Coach, Jamie Williams, said his love of track made a 5k benefit an easy decision.
“Once we dealt with the unfortunate passing, we really wanted to come together as a team and community. We wanted to pitch in and try and celebrate his memory,” said Williams.
The race was originally supposed to be held last weekend, but had to be rescheduled after it was rained out. Williams said the community support for the Gilkerson family and the run has been phenomenal. She said she is amazed by the amount of support the area has given the Gilkerson family and the 5K.
“Between our cross county parents, the local businesses, and other teams we have had remarkable success with donations of time, money, effort, and water,” said Williams. “It’s just been overwhelming.”
There was no registration cost to participate in the 5k. The only cost was if people wanted to donate or buy a shirt for $10.
