Cancer Benefit at Sunrise Strikes

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Sunrise Strikes bowling alley, in Zanesville, held a benefit for a woman with cancer.
Brenda Bates has been battling cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Bates was born in the area, and even though she has moved out of the state, she still comes back to the area every summer. Bates’ friend, Tina Jones, has known Bates for over 30 years. Even though they live several hours apart, they still maintain a close friendship. Jones wanted to have a party for Bates where all of her friends could see her but the party, turned into much more.
“Dusty, her half brother, he’s the owner of Sunrise Strikes, volunteered to let us come out,” said Jones. “We advertised that they had bowling and putt putt golf here and that along with the family thing. We want people to come out and enjoy themselves.”
There was more than just bowling at the alley. There was a car show outside which raised money for Bates. There was also food available for a $5 donation. A raffle also took place featuring around 50 different prizes. Jones said the money, time, and prizes that were donated truly show how much the community cares.
“Her aunt made these lovely baskets,” said Jones. “Friends have donated. It’s just been an amazing response, just amazing.”
Jones said cancer impacts everybody and she is so appreciative of anyone who helped. If you would like to donate, call Kris Nutter at 740-453-2043.
