Betty Lighthizer

Betty J. Lighthizer, 93, of Nashport, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on August 17, 2026, at the Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville.
She was born on August 7, 1933, in Zanesville, Ohio, daughter of the late George “Dewey” Grant and Evelyn (Short) Grant. Betty worked at David Davies packing meats and later at Essex Wire for 17 years, where she retired. She was a member of the Northside Church of the Nazarene in Zanesville. Above all, she was the neighborhood babysitter and she loved spending her time with her family and loved ones.
Betty is survived by her children, Donna (Charles) Teetz and David (Kathy) Lighthizer; grandchildren, Michelle Montgomery, Andrew (DeAnna) Lighthizer, and Adam (Ashley) Lighthizer; great grandchildren, Caitlin Montgomery, Lillian Montgomery, Morgan Lighthizer, Oran McKee, Cole McKee, Alizabeth Lighthizer, Annaliese Lighthizer; nieces and nephew, Sandy (Tim) Krause, Pam Curry, and Jeff (Polly) Curry; great nephews, Matt Krause and Kyle Krause; good friend, Tom Jennings.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry L. Lighthizer; son, Danny Lighthizer; brothers, Robert Grant and Sammy Grant; and sister, Dorothy Curry.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 19, 2026, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1:00 PM with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating. Burial will conclude services at Rose Hill Cemetery in Roseville.
The family would like to sincerely thank Genesis Morrison House and the McGrath cousins (from the family reunion) for the care and prayers given to Betty during this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Betty can be made to St. Jude or to the Muskingum County Animal Shelter in Zanesville.
