Consolidating Emergency Information

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Many communities are unprepared for when natural disasters strike, which often forces civic leaders into a sudden scramble to organize and communicate during all the chaos.

LifeLinx Founder Maria Adams was working to create a QR Code merchandising platform when severe flooding struck her hometown of Weston, West Virginia about a month ago.

“The day that that flood happened, my daughter and I had a spa there and we set up a donation center behind it, because nobody knew what to do, nobody knew where to go. And our hearts were pouring out to the community, even though we had our losses, we were there for them. And we saw that everyone kept coming to me to ask questions like; where do we get food and how do I get access to help somebody helping to get the… remove the debris from my home. And I started feeling a huge responsibility for my neighbors, my friends, my community,” Adams said.

As the cleanup efforts progressed in Weston, many of the travelling volunteers received word about the flooding in Crooksville. Adams adjusted her QR Code software to become a source of information for natural disaster victims before traveling here and putting it to use.

“Maybe not everybody has a phone. Maybe not everybody knows how to use a QR Code, but it’s very simple. As I said, you open it to… like you’re taking a photo. Hover over the QR Code and it will bring up the link. That link can then be shared. There’s a little share icon at the bottom. You can share it to everyone you know. So you don’t have to go to a donation center to find all this stuff out. But yes. This is how information can get shared extremely fast, especially in an emergency situation,” Adams said.

LifeLinx is a brand new, digital, emergency-information-hub that allows cell phone users to have instant access to a legitimate, organized list of local emergency resources for when disasters strike. As well as a source for participating civic leaders and relief agencies to disseminate accurate and up-to-date instruction.

For more information, you can access the QR Code with your cell phone’s camera.
