Marvin “Mike” Bates

Marvin E. “Mark” Bates, 63 of Crooksville, died, Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus, following a brief illness. He was born Sunday, December 30, 1962, in Zanesville, the son of George “Steve” A. Bates, Sr., and Betty Lou Johnson.

Mark was employed by Lab Corp of America, and Asplundh Tree Service. He was an avid sports fan following football, baseball, and was a huge Ohio State Buckeyes Fan. Mark enjoyed visiting yard sales, and flea markets with his brother and sister. Mark was a loving and caring father, and grandfather, who cherished the time he spent with his family.

Mark is survived by four children, Kim McManes, Mikey Bates, Cheryl Bates, and Brooklyn Watts; three grandchildren, Preston Bates, Jayden Bates, and Isabella McManes; three siblings, George (Jennifer) Bates, Jim (Candy) Bates, and Teresa Muschott, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by one son, Chris Bates; one brother, Terry Bates.
