South Zanesville Village Park to add 6 New Pickleball Courts

SOUTH ZANESVILLE, OH – The South Zanesville Village Park is getting some upgrades.

The Village has been hard at work for the last few years to improve the park; last year they installed the new Big Toy playspace for children ages 2 years-old and up and now this year is bringing Pickleball courts.

Barbara Lloyd, the Mayor of the Village of South Zanesville, says there will soon be 6 new outdoor Pickleball courts for the community to come and enjoy.

“There are people in this park all the time, we have to run them off at dark.” Mayor Lloyd said. “They are here constantly and they come from all over the county, not just the Village residents, it’s just wonderful.”

Paul Lowe, a Councilman, says none of the upgrades at the park would’ve been possible without help from the J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation.

They provided $68,000 for the Big Toy playground last summer and an additional $48,000 for the pickleball courts.

“They’ll run this way, and they’ll be painted up in Mayesville colors to match the big toy that we put in last year.” Lowe said. “We’ve been working on this park, real hard, we’ve got a lot of things. We’ve got the mile walking trail, dog park, basketball courts, softball field, big play units, we just put electricity in the shelter. The Mayor, the whole council, and everybody in the South Zanesville Village has been working really hard together to make this a park that is more appealing for families and children.”

Mayor Lloyd says the painting should be done in about two weeks and then the pickleball courts will be open from dawn until dusk each day.
