Sprague Campaigns for Secretary of State During Zanesville Visit

ZANESVILLE, OH – Republican Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague is running for Secretary of State on the November ballot.
He made a stop in Zanesville recently to talk about some of the key issues voters should keep in mind when they head to the polls.
Sprague says it’s important to get out, make your voice heard, and is encouraging everyone to head to their voting locations.
“So Secretary of State, you basically run the elections with the State of Ohio and for the state of Ohio and I’m not running to tear down our local boards, I’m running to build them up.” Sprague said. “But I would like to see some changes made, I want to move to an up-front citizen check, so that only American citizens can vote in our elections and I also want to make sure that we require photo I-D so people are who they say they are when they vote and we know they’re a valid voter.”
One of the big issues on the ballot this November is Ohio Issue 3, which is the Requiring of Voter Identification.
The proposed amendment would require Ohio voters, including absentee voters, to provide photo ID or another approved form of identification. It would also allow an alternative verification process for voters with religious objections to being photographed. Ohio already requires in-person voters to show photo ID, while absentee voters can currently use a photo ID, driver’s license or ID number, or the last four digits of their Social Security number.
“You can’t run an election without a photo ID and expect them to be secure. Right now we have on the ballot in November, Issue 3, which actually adds photo ID for in person voting to the State Constitution.” Sprague said. “Now when you show up these days, in the State of Ohio, since it’s currently law, you have to show your drivers license in order to be able to vote. We want to add that to the State Constitution, not because it changes policy, but because it adds permanence.”
Sprague will be running against Democrat Candidate Allison Russo Libertarian Candidate Tom Pruss. Election day is Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026.
