John Allman and Ed Rogers are the ZAAP Artists of the Month
The ZAAP Art Gallery in downtown Zanesville looks like the Wild West thanks to the two ZAAP artists of the month.
Ed Rogers and John Allman are both acrylic painters who will be featured during September’s First Friday Art Walk. Allman started painting thanks to Bob Ross’s televised tutelage, and his pieces are inspired by his winter trips to the American Southwest.
“I’ve been going to Arizona in the winters and hooking up with people in my RV park that have an interest in painting and we kind of, you know, kick ideas around and learn from each other. //EDIT// I consider an artist kind of a magician. Because we take a two-dimensional canvas and turn it into a multi-dimensional work of art, and it kind of helps it pop off the walls.”
Rogers has work at the Zanesville Museum of Art, has received the Ohio Governor’s Award, and the Ronna Bucci/Charles Diets Award. He says that it was Allman’s idea to share the spotlight this month.
“I’m really honored to be selected as the co-artist of the month with John. Yeah, John came to me and said, ‘I do western art, you do western art, let’s do a show together.’ So that’s how it ended up being co-artists. //EDIT// I love doing western work. I like to play with light and shadow. Get a lot of inspiration from Old West movies. ”
You can see Allman’s and Rogers’ work on display at the ZAAP Gallery this Friday at 625 Main Street in Zanesville. The doors open for the First Friday Art Walk at 5 p.m. and close at 8 p.m.
