Joan Weidig

Joan Rose Noll Weidig passed on to her eternal home at The Oaks at Bethesda at 4:00am on September 3, 2026.

Her story began when she was born on February 15, 1930, the oldest of four children to Walter F. Noll and Freda Mary Brahler Noll. Her father and mother preceded her in death in 1994 and 2012, respectively.

Joan graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1948 and attended St. Mary’s of the Springs, which later became Ohio Dominican. From there she transferred to and graduated from Meredith Business College in Columbus, Ohio. She became a speed typist and was fluent at shorthand as well.

She married Fritz Weidig in 1955. This October, they would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary (67 of those were spent together here on earth). The couple had two sons and one daughter, in that order.

Prior to starting their family, Joan found great fun in being a Girl Scout leader for several years. When their children were very young, she was a Welcome Wagon Hostess, putting together baskets, sponsored by Local businesses, and delivering them to families welcoming their new babies to our community. As their children grew, she went to work in her field of expertise, working as the school secretary for both Mclntire and McKinley Elementary Schools. Joan then went on to work as an architectural secretary for the firm of Dittmar and Stubbs, later working for Richard Dittmar Architecture until her retirement.

Joan is survived by one brother, Tom (Kathy) Noll of Florida, and one brother-in-law, Dave Pfeifer; she and Fritz’s children: sons, David Weidig of Zanesville and Chuck (Teresa) Weidig of Houston, Texas, and daughter Lori (Steve) Moyer of Zanesville; her beloved grandchildren, Caitlin (Derek) Denman, Scott M. Moyer (Courtney McCulley), Will (Lindsay) Weidig, Beau (Leigh Ann) Moyer, Megan (Michael) Hughett, Mary (Charles) Hall, and Olivia (Nick) Phillips. Joan was also very proud of her great-grandchildren: Charlie and Clara Weidig, Collins Moyer, Simon and Walter Denman, Claire and Cora Moyer, and Elijah Phillips (4 boys + 4 girts) … but coming in early 2027 will be the tiebreaker, Baby Girt Hall!

ln addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her dear husband, Fritz Weidig, her sister, Jane Pfeifer, and her brother, Fred Noll, all passing in 2022; most recently, her sister-in-law, Carole Noll passed in 2026, as well as her daughter-in-law, Beth Irvin Weidig, in 2009.

Joan was always on board with Fritz’s passion for sports, lugging their kids to countless baseball, football and basketball games over the years. Even though she enjoyed cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes, her loyalty remained always with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The family would like to thank Joan’s many kind and giving caretakers both with Genesis Hospice and The Oaks at Bethesda; with special mention to Kris, Gloria and sweet Amber at The Oaks at Bethesda, and to therapy director Layne Paladino for her dedication to strengthening Mom’s legs from Day 1 at the Oaks. We are grateful for the excellent and caring ways you, and absolutely Everyone at The Oaks, made her feel special each day.

A short family visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8th at 9:00am at the Bryan Hardwick Funeral Home prior to the Funeral Mass to be celebrated that morning at 10:30 AM at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with Fr. Chris Tuttle as celebrant. BuriaI will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Zanesville.
