37th Annual College Day for high school students

2017.10.13 College Day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Local high school students flocked to Zane State’s campus today to start planning their futures after graduation.

Over 65 colleges and branches of the military set up booths and passed out literature to students interested in furthering their education or serving the country. Cathy Perpich, the Recruitment Coordinator at Zane State College, says students came from four different counties and 19 different schools to participate in the 37th Annual College Day.

“We have nearing a thousand high school students who are coming today. We also have financial aid sessions going on in different parts of campus. So students are everywhere. The mascot is here. It’s a fun, positive, happy energy day.”

Representatives come from schools all over Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania to give the students a wide array of options. Although the schools are competing against each other to recruit students they keep the main goal in mind and help each other work towards it.

“It’s really actually kind of surprising to me the camaraderie that there is between the different college reps. We also joke about, how like, on the field some of us – not us here at Zane State – but some of them may be rivals, but we’re really all in it together. So a lot of the reps know each other, are familiar with each other; and the goal of today for everyone: students, school counselors, college reps is to be here for the students and make sure that they’re getting the information that they need.”

Zane State’s mascot also joined the students on campus today.
