Charles Hunt

Charles “Chuck” Augustus Hunt Jr., 77, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026, while at Altercare Zanesville for post-surgery rehabilitation. He was born on February 1, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Charles A. and Leola Walters Hunt Sr. Chuck was a 1967 graduate of Bedford High School and attended the University of Rio Grande in Southern Ohio.

Chuck worked in sales throughout much of his life, selling everything from automobiles and insurance policies to musical instruments; but music was always one of the greatest joys.

Chuck had a gift for sharing music with others and blessed his family and community with that gift throughout his life. He was both a professional pianist and organist, playing for countless weddings, church services, at nursing homes and community events. He served for many years as the organist at the Nashport United Methodist Church and later at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Zanesville, as a member of the church. He was also a keyboardist for events at the Elks Club, the Zanesville Grotto and Moose Lodge fraternal clubs that focus on community service and was a Mason. For 15 years, he was a member of a Rhythm & Brass band that performed throughout Ohio.

Chuck also shared his love of music by teaching piano to countless youth and adults over the years. His lessons tended to run well beyond their scheduled time, not always because there was more music to learn, but because Chuck loved to talk and usually had another story to tell! At home, there was almost always music coming from his keyboard, sometimes so much that his three daughters would happily welcome a little peace and quiet! Those are the sounds they will now miss.

When Chuck wasn’t making music, he was usually building, fixing, or tinkering with something. He enjoyed taking care of the lawn, woodworking, and working on cars and was always willing to lend his skills to friends and neighbors who needed help with home repairs. With a passion for big projects, Chuck even built his own two-story garage, equipping the first floor with his tools and creating his own music studio in the loft – a perfect reflection of the things he loved.

Chuck enjoyed a good road trip, especially when it involved his family. In 1990, he loaded Bonnie and all three girls into a Ford Taurus and drove the family across the country for their first trip to Utah. It was the family’s first trip west of the Mississippi and became one of many family adventures. In later years, Chuck and Bonnie loved traveling to visit their family as they moved around the country, including trips to Utah, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Georgia, California, and Florida.

Through it all, his devoted wife, Bonnie, was faithfully by his side. Chuck married Bonnie West on March 13, 1971, and together they shared 55 years of marriage. The two were nearly inseparable and were happiest simply spending time together – shopping, traveling, or going out to dinner to enjoy their favorite meal at La Paloma.

Chuck was also an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes along with the Cleveland Browns and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie West Hunt; three daughters, Heather (Davis) Birch, Heidi (Matthew) Schneck and Holly (Scott) Franklin; his brother, Jack (Anita) Hunt; and 12 grandchildren: Kayla Birch, Tyler (Makenna) Birch, Nathan (Eliza) Birch, Jared Birch, Branden Birch, Hanna Schneck, Siri Schneck, Champ Schneck, Aage Schneck, Faith Thorne, Talyn Franklin, and Pearce James “PJ” Franklin.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, a funeral visitation for friends and family will be held from 1:00 to 1:45 PM in the Relief Society Room, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 3300 Kearns Drive, in Zanesville, Ohio, with Bishop Hirtle officiating.
