Superhero party raises money for performing arts

Super Heros

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Some superheroes flew into Zanesville today to help out with a special cause.

Members from the Justice League and Avengers landed at Colony Square Mall to have some fun with budding superheroes and to help raise money for the Muskingum Youth Performing Arts. Parents purchased tickets for their kids that could be used to participate in the activities at the party. Some of the students in the theatre group came out to help run the fun.

“We get people to dress up as little superheroes and greet the kids,” said Adelaide Pitcock a dancer in the upcoming performance. “And then we have, different games like face painting, and bouncy balls, and spin the wheel to raise money for the dance studio.”

The students at the dance school put on a performance of the Nutcracker every year. The program does a few fundraisers throughout the year. The Muskingum Youth Performing Arts Director, Whitney Lewis, says the money helps offset the costs of the performances.

The money goes back into our production of the Nutcracker so we can update our costumes, update our set design. We bring in a professional guest artist for the students and it also covers the students rehearsal time and our time in the theatre.

The Nutcracker will run Thanksgiving weekend at Secrest Auditorium. Tickets range from $10 to $20.
