ZANESVILLE, Ohio- You may enjoy shopping at the farmer’s market for fresh produce, but those in need of food often can’t do that. One organization is working to put fresh produce on the plates of those less fortunate.

United Way has a booth at the farmer’s market at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds called the Donation Station. The goal of the booth is provide those who don’t have access to fresh fruits and vegetables with a fresh hot meal. Suellen Skinner volunteers at the Donation Station and says there are three different ways to help out.

“The vendors can leave food with them if they don’t want to take it home. Folks who are shopping can leave food or they can leave money. And then at the end of the day the person manning – the person staffing the table can go and purchase fresh produce for whatever hot program – hot meal program they’re involved with.”

Volunteers sit at the booth from open to close accepting donations. The farmer’s market closes for the season on October 28th. The Donation Station will be open that day to accept donations.
