High school football player of the week – Connor McLaughlin

NEWARK, Ohio – There is only one football team in our coverage area left undefeated and their junior running back, Connor McLaughlin, is our week eight high school football Player of the Week.
McLaughlin carried the ball 18 times for 180 yards and four touchdowns, and also threw a 37 yard touchdown pass, in Licking Valley’s 48-27 win over Newark Catholic on Friday. The victory moved the Panthers to 8-0 and in prime position to win the Licking County League.
It’s been quite a turn around for Licking Valley after finishing 4-6 last season.
“Our seniors’ attitude has been the big change. Our quarterback, Jake, and our receiver Gunner, Austin, and Ethan, have really helped make the team excited to play each week,” said McLaughlin.
Aside from being undefeated, the Panthers also hit another big milestone this year. In week five they beat Northridge to give long time Licking Valley head coach Randy Baughman his 300th career win.
“I’ve always want to play for him. When I was in middle school he’d come here and watch us play. Even then I couldn’t wait to play for him,” said McLaughlin.
The Panthers have a big road test this week when they travel to Granville to play the 7-1 Blue Aces. If the Licking Valley beats Granville then they’ll win the Licking County League Buckeye Division.
