Sheriff Lutz to hold Facebook live for jail bond

2017.10.17 Lutz Jail Facebook

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- As the election draws near, many Muskingum County residents are trying to understand a levy on the ballot.

Sheriff Lutz stopped by Rotary today to talk about the jail bond on the ballot. Sheriff Lutz recognizes that many residents have questions and concerns about the proposed levy. In an effort to answer as many questions as he can before the election, he will hold a Facebook live where residents can directly ask him questions.

“We’re going to basically only take questions pertaining to the levy, pertaining to the jail, and it’ll be a situation where we can take live questions. And we’re taking questions as speak.”

The proposal is a one mill levy for 30 years to build a new jail facility in the county. This works out to be around 35 dollars a year on a 100 thousand dollar home value. Sheriff Lutz says the current jail no longer serves the need of the county.

“The jail we were in was built for three floors of administration and one floor jail on the top. And over the course of the 40 plus years it’s been there it’s now four floors of jail. And it’s just basically, we’re out of room. We have recommended by the state to hold 181 and this morning we were over 200.”

The Facebook live will be on Thursday, October 26th at 7 p.m. on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
