October is national CyberSecurity Awareness month

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-The Better Business Bureau released a new study on the state of small businesses.
October is national CyberSecurity Awareness month. The focus this month is how small businesses can better be prepared to prevent cyber hacks. The greatest risk small businesses face is Phishing emails because those attacks create countless opportunities for hackers.
“They’re coming into your email. It only takes one employee to click on a link that downloads malware onto the system. You think that’s insignificant but, that could be big enough that it could infiltrate your entire business, and it could infiltrate some of your vendors. Once it does that it can kind of exploded from there,” said Ohio President of BBB Kip Morse.
The BBB has created a five-step approach to better business CyberSecurity. These five steps are Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. Following this five-step approach can increase a company’s security.
“You typically have not prepared for an attack. If you have some sort of a cyber attack, you’re in a panic mood. The idea here is to set up five different steps to know what to do when there is an attack. Know how to handle it and put the things in place so … you feel a little more comfortable saying I know what to do,” said Morse.
