A new scholarship established by Capital University president

BEXLEY, Ohio – Capital University has announced a new scholarship established by their current president, Jared Tice, for students living in Appalachian counties from Ohio and West Virginia.

The Dr. Jared R. Tice Family Trailblazer Endowed Scholarship was established to support students and strengthen enrollment by lowering financial barriers.

Yeah, so access and affordability to college and university life has always been a critical part of my story growing up in rural West Virginia in the Mid-Ohio Valley,” Tice said. “And I’ve tried to be committed to that throughout my entire career. And one of the ways that I felt like I could best contribute to our new strategic plan and the vibrancy in life of Capital University is establish a new scholarship…

The scholarship is also available for those who are first generation college students.

“Though I’m not a first-generation college student myself, I hail from a state that has the lowest college-age graduates as part of their workforce. And so making sure that everyone, regardless of who their parents were, what they did for a living, what level of education they had, they have an opportunity to get a great world-class education at Capital University,” Tice said. “And by designating that as a preference for first-generation college students, I want everyone to imagine how they can rise in their education by attending Capital University. ”

In May of this year, Capital University entered an articulation agreement with two Appalachian-based schools; Zane State College and Washington State College. This agreement gives Zane State and Washington State graduates with an associate’s degree a clear path to build towards a bachelor’s degree with Capital University.

“So this is all part of our overall efforts to make sure that we’re creating opportunity for every family to attend Capital University regardless of financial position and family income,” Tice said.
