Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department levy

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- This election day will also have an operating levy for the Zanesville-Muskingum Health Department on the ballot.
The health department is seeking a renewal of a 10 year half mill levy. Since it is a renewal that means there will be no new taxes added on Muskingum residents. The money gained from the levy makes up 45 percent of the health departments total revenue.
“It’s really critical that we gain the community support for this levy. It’s not a new tax, it’s not an increased tax, it’s just the same old tax that’s about just under $15 per $100,000 valuation in a home,” said Health Commissioner Corey Hamilton.
The money from the levy goes to operations that can’t be funded any other way. Several of the programs the health department provides, are reliant on the funding from the levy. Hamilton says everyone in Muskingum County benefits from the health department.
“We inspect all of the food services and restaurants in the community to make sure that people have access to safe food. We inspect septic systems and backflow systems to make sure that community residents have access to clean water,” said Hamilton.
Hamilton said the levy will allow the health department to promote and improve the communities health.
