Coroner’s Office and Emergency Management Agency Budget Updates

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Two county agencies met with the Muskingum County Commissioners this morning to provide updates and have discussions about their budgets.
The Coroner’s Office met with the commissioners first. Dr. Charles Feicht, the Coroner, says the office has had a busier caseload than originally expected which is causing them to go over budget.
“Our number of autopsies are up year over year and this reflects a larger case load and a to some degree more opioid deaths. But generally more caseload from violent deaths,” said Feicht.
The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency also discussed their strained budget with the commissioners. Director Jeff Jadwin says an unexpected buyout that was not planned for in the budget called a strain on the agency’s finances.
“We met with the Commissioners to discuss additional funding we needed some additional funds to make it through the end of the year. The previous director retired and with his buyout for retiring that wasn’t figured into this years budget so they’re allowing us to have some additional funding to cover that and other expenses that we didn’t have figured into the budget,” said Jadwin.
Both agencies were granted either partial or full amounts of the totals they requested.
