Traffic Changes Ahead for the Half Marathon & 5K

ZANESVILLE, OH – A traffic pattern change is coming to Zanesville this weekend.

On Saturday beginning at 7:30AM will be the 6th Annual Zanesville Half Marathon and 5K, hosted by the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department.

Amanda McPeck, the Assistant Public Information Officer with the Health Department, says they hope to have all runners off the course by noon but in the meantime, there’s going to be some traffic impacts in Downtown Zanesville as well as on the Maysville Pike.

“So, our runners are going to start down at Zane’s Landing Park and they’re going to travel up Market Street down 6th St., through the Putnam District,” McPeck explained, “And then their going to hit Maysville Pike and from there they’re going to make a little off-shoot on Grove Ave., hit Pine St., up to Maysville again, and then they’re doing a down and back from Maysville and Pin all the way to Nolan Dr. So they have one entire protected lane there to run in and short change that one lane.”

McPeck says traffic marshals for the race will be out in bright green shirts to help with the flow of traffic.

She also shared some advice for motorists who may be out and about during the races.

“Just keep in mind, we’re going to stop you if there are larger packs of runners coming; they have a personal record they’re trying to beat.” McPeck said. “They’re trying to make a time, so give us grace, give us patience, just stop for the runners, make sure they have clearance and they feel safe running through our town.”

There are still spots open for the 5K and Half Marathon and runners will receive a swag bag full of goodies as well as a finishers medal.
