Planes, (model) trains, and automobiles at the 2026 Fly-In & Cruise-In
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The 26th annual Zanesville Fly In & Cruise In took place today with just about every motor type you can think of.
From classic cars, to classic aircraft, modern aircraft, and model aircraft, this years event has something for every enthusiast. One of the hangars housed model trains while the The Old Steam & Gas Club brought their tractors and engines to display.
Zanesville native, Allen Lemity, says he’s been attending the Fly-In and Drive-In for years. His car was one of over 160 on display at the Zanesville Municipal Airport.
“It’s a ’34 Dodge. I’ve owned it for 52 years. It’s just a survivor car, I just got it out of the shop from the last couple years of getting it worked on. Brian Miller is the one that did all the repairs to the car and it just runs like a top. It runs super, but it’s been in my family for all these years,” Lemity said.
55 aircraft were parked on the ramp include twin engine aircraft like a Piper Apache, jets, helicopters, a gyrocopter, and vintage aircraft like the New Standard D-25. That last one was built in 1929 and was offering flights for a fee.
The local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association, or EAA, put the event together with fundraisers to help organizations. One organization is Christ’s Table in Zanesville and the other is Honor Flight Columbus.
Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring America’s senior Veterans with a trip to Washington DC to visit their service and war memorials.
“Honor Flight is a national program. The Columbus area, I believe, serves about 40 counties. Our trip is a one day trip, some of the national programs do have to stretch that trip a little bit longer to allow for flight time and visiting time,” said Susan Miller, a volunteer with Honor Flight Columbus. “When our veterans go, our veterans fly for free. So it is a well established program but it does take a lot of money to run it and to get our veterans to Washington DC. ”
