South Zanesville Fire Department Shares Burn Ban Reminder, Meat Raffle Details
SOUTH ZANESVILLE, OH – Fall leaves may be piling up, but firefighters say don’t light the match just yet.
The South Zanesville Fire Department is reminding residents that Ohio’s fall burn ban is now in effect. Outdoor burning is prohibited in unincorporated areas from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“The fall burn ban began on October 1st and runs through the end of November. Typically, during this time of the season, the ground is dried out, the wind starts to pick up, and we get a little less rain. So, when you do burn, it has a tendency to blow around a lot quicker and fires can spread rapidly.” South Zanesville Fire Department Asst. Chief, Landon Duhamel, said.
The fire department is also reminding the community about its meat raffle happening tomorrow at Prophets Park. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the raffle starting at 7. Admission is five dollars and includes snacks and pop.
“We ordered $2,500 of meat to be given away. Tickets range from $2 to $3 for a chance to win. If you need food, we know it’s a high price in the grocery store, so we’re giving food away tomorrow for as little as $2.” South Zanesville Fire Chief, Russell Taylor said.
Proceeds from the meat raffle will go directly toward supporting the South Zanesville Fire Department and the Amrou Grotto.
