John R. Ray

John Reginald Ray, 90, passed away on October 1, 2026 at Primrose Assisted Living. He was born on April 25, 1936 in Muskingum County, to the late John Gordon Ray and Regina Smith Ray.
He was a 1954 graduate of Lash High School and a 1958 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in Geology. He was a well-known singer and sang “The Messiah” at Grace United Methodist Church. He loved old cars, especially his 1931 Ford Roadster, 1931 Ford Coupe and 1952 Hudson Hornet Hollywood. He also served our country and protected our freedom while serving as a Pilot in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves.
He is survived by his wife Donna Barclay Ray; children, Greg (Lorraine) Ray, Keith (Aleatha) Ray and Teresa (Eric Holsky) Ray; grandchildren, Steven Ray and Natalie Holsky; and a great grandson Emmitt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Judy Galbreath; a brother Doug Ray; and step-children, Paul Monteith and Steve Monteith.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 2-4 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Primrose Assisted Living, 4212 Northpointe Dr. Zanesville, OH 43701, with a short service at 4 PM.
