A Veterans Day Giveaway

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Each Veterans Day, a local business selects two veteran households with worn or malfunctioning furnaces to be furnished with brand new, energy efficient units.

Ables Heating and Cooling Vice President of Business Operations Jeremy Ables shared how his company has carried out the ‘Heat for our Heroes’ program for nearly a decade.

“Heat for our Heroes basically started out as an idea for a way that we can give back to the people who have provided service to our country,” Ables said. “So we wanted to do that and what better way than during wintertime, if you have a system that’s not operating properly and you qualify, you’re amongst the nominations and we have two lucky winners each year that win it. And basically we come in and we replace your either electric furnace or your gas furnace, whichever you have.”

The application deadline to enter the ‘Heat for our Heroes’ giveaway is Sunday, October 18th, and active duty service members, veterans and the surviving spouses of veterans are eligible to apply or be nominated. Eligible selectees must reside in Muskingum, Guernsey, Morgan, Perry, Noble or Licking Counties.

“They’re the ones that can apply and need to apply by October 18th,” Ables said. “And they can do that through our website, heatforourheroes.com or they can mail in a nomination, from the website, here to Ables at 3370 East Pike.” Ables said. “Once we have all the nominations we can go through, then we’ll contact them and say hey, so and so or you were nominated. We don’t have to give the name but you were nominated for this. Do you mind if we come and take a look and see if you’re the most in need.”

Winners of the 2026 ‘Heat for our Heroes’ initiative will be announced on Veterans Day. For more information, you can reach out to Ables Heating and Cooling by calling (740) 453-6015.
