The Animal Shelter Society’s October features an adoption special and fundraiser
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Animal Shelter Society is running a cat adoption special and hosting a major fundraiser in the month of October.
For $20 you can take home a cat that has been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. According to the organization’s executive director, April Gibson, the nonprofit doesn’t try to make money off of the cats but tries to improve their lives.
“What we are doing is putting animals back out into the communities with families, caring families that are vetted and that means we’re not going to have anymore reproduction from that particular animal. And because there is one heck of a problem in our community, as with many, the over population on cats. So, that’s where we’re at,” Gibson said. “We know that they’re fully vetted and if they get away, then the microchip can bring them, you know, back to their family. So that’s the way we look at it. We’re doing the community justice and we’re also doing these animals justice.”
Taste of Ohio Wine, Bourbon, and Beer has teamed up with the Animal Shelter Society to host the Halloween-themed Wicked Whiskers Ladies Sing-a-Long Brunch. On top of the titular sing-along there will also be a costume party. Angela Bailey is the owner of Taste of Ohio and is excited for the different type of energy this event will bring.
“It’s going to be a great event. We’re going to make this into a party, which we’re not normally known for. We’re more of a lounge, speak-easy vibe if you will. But with April’s help we’re going to turn this into a big party and it’s all things Halloween also. So, we encourage you to come dressed up,” Bailey said. “We’ll have a nice limited menu for you. All of our cocktails will be available and also we serve mocktails. So, for those people who don’t drink, you’re still welcome to attend.”
The Wicked Whiskers Ladies Sing-a-Long Brunch will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. and wraps up at 1 p.m. Reservations are required so you can call 740-452-1077.
