ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A family is displaced tonight after a fire in their home.

It happened on Redman Road. Dakota McCormick was home when he heard a crackling noise and went to investigate and then sprang into action.

“I just went to the bathroom and I smelled something burning and I touched the ceiling and it burned my hand. And I was like, ‘yep, time to call the fire department!’.

Emergency crews responded and saw light smoke when they arrived on scene. They entered the unit and located the source of the smoke and were able to control the situation. Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Bell says it appears the fire started in the attic.

“Upon investigation pulled the fan from the bathroom and found that there had been a small fire in the attic.”

The fire department believes the cause may have been electrical, however, the investigation is ongoing.
