The community of New Concord honors Veterans

NEW CONCORD, Ohio– Today, many members of the community and surrounding areas gathered together to help celebrate and honor local Veterans.
We spoke with one of the organizers who helped make this event a success. “Well this is our third annual Veterans Day ceremony and we just wanted to do something for the Veterans in our community,” said George St. Clair.
On this chilly November morning, members of the community welcomed both the Veterans and their families with open arms. With a service of music and recognition, we can always do more to celebrate our veterans.
“I’ve never had any trouble with employment, but a lot of them have and they need to be given a break. They take 3, 6 or 20 years of their lives, while the civilians are making careers and the Veterans are starting at ground zero essentially when trying to get a job,” said local Veteran, Rudy Gerlach.
Gerlach is certainly no stranger to patriotism! As 1 of 6 brothers, he says he joined the force at a young age in hopes of creating a better life for himself.
Community leaders hope that continuing to have events like this will help shed a light on the importance and significance of our veterans.
