ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Local churches are collecting shoe boxes full of items to help out children in need across the world.

Rolling Plains United Methodist Church is a Collection site for National Operation Christmas Child. Churches and individuals from Muskingum and surrounding counties have been collecting and donating shoe boxes full of gifts for children to open across the globe. Rolling Plains Pastor John Alice said this is a way for the community to make a difference for kids.

“They might have something at Christmas time when a lot of these kids if not for this wouldn’t have anything at Christmas time,” said Pastor Alice.

Rolling Plains is contributing about 600 shoe boxes to the cause. The church is also a collection center. It worked with other churches as a common place for everyone to bring their shoe boxes.

“In the last week, we will probably handle 11,000 shoe boxes that will go through the hands of our servant volunteers here,” said Pastor Alice. “We’ll pack the tractor-trailer semi truck to go towards the Atlanta, Georgia area to be processed and shipped around the world.”

If you missed this years shoe box donation time frame, you will be able to donate next year since this is an annual donation.
