ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Our first responders are on the clock today, but that’s not stopping them from enjoying a tasty meal.

WHIZ caught up with members of the Zanesville Fire Department today to see how they’re spending the holiday. The working crews got together to cook a Thanksgiving feast. The firefighters even took time to roll up napkins with utensils.

“As you can see we’re getting ready for the festivities. We’ve got two turkeys in the deep fryer, a ham in the oven,” said Thad Krause, a Zanesville Firefighter. “Everyone brought in side dishes. We’ve got our families coming in.”

Some of the firefighters families came to the station to spend the day with them since they couldn’t be home. Although it’s not the way most would prefer to spend the holiday, the crew make the best of it and enjoy each other’s company.

“The fire family, I mean, we’re here with these guys every third day. So we spend a third of our life with them basically. It’s just a little different here because at home you don’t have to worry about if the … go off and you have to run out and you know go help somebody,” Krause said. Whereas at home you’re just sitting there enjoying dinner, enjoying family and friends, and all that.”

In between calls the firefighters are enjoying their dinner and families. They also want to remind everyone to be safe today.
