Man Competent to Stand Trial

A Zanesville man has been found competent to stand trial on 47 sex crimes.

Monday in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark Fleegle ruled 22-year-old Irvine Carnes IV’s case will proceed to trial.

Both the state and defense went with the evaluation of the Forensic Diagnostic Center of District 9, which found Carnes competent.

Last August, Carnes pled not-guilty to 46 first-degree-felony counts of rape and one third-degree felony charge of gross sexual imposition. Prosecutors say the sex crimes involve a mix of seven males and females under the age of 13.

Carnes’ trial is set for March 2nd.
