Dealing with the Cold this holiday season
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- With the low temperatures outside people are trying to stay inside as much as possible. But, when you have to go outside, ice can be a big problem.
Do-It Center Store Manager Dennis Baldwin said people have been coming to the store to purchase items to help deal with the cold and icy conditions outside. Ice melt and rock salt are two of the best items to make sure your sidewalks and driveways are ice free. He said, if you have to pick one, Ice Melt is the better option.
“Ice Melt is a better option because it does better at a colder temperature than rock salt. Which rock salts not good for your concrete anyways. It doesn’t eat the concrete up like rock salt does,” said Baldwin.
Baldwin said the colder temperatures can freeze items such as pipes and locks. External pipes can be protected by heat wraps. Locks can be unfrozen by an Ice Melt Spray. Baldwin said washer fluid is another thing that can freeze.
“Most all of it has some freeze point in it and if you’re getting into colder weather you might want to look into lower temperature ones. Some are like -30 degrees, some not that much,” said Baldwin.
