Pet of the Week: BJ

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A special four-legged friend is in need of a loving home.
BJ, a 13-year-old Australian Shepherd, came to the shelter last month after his owner passed away. BJ has had a rough time. He’s deaf and lost all of his hair due to skin allergies. The good news is he’s a trooper and is feeling better with his hair growing back. The Animal Shelter Society Assistant Director, Charity Stevens, said BJ is a special needs dog, requiring some extra tlc.
“He also is on seizure medication, which isn’t very expensive. But it does require some upkeep from the veterinarian. Some medical needs that also needs to be met. But he’s a sweet boy and just kind of getting overlooked just because of the obstacles he has against him.”
Stevens said BJ hasn’t had a seizure since he’s been on the medication. BJ is a sweet dog that likes to be pet. He’s used to being part of a family. BJ’s adoption fees have been sponsored. He is up to date on all shots and vaccines and he’s had his surgery. BJ is all ready to go home for $50.
“I think he would be a good fit for any family. Maybe not with small, small children just because he is deaf and he could get startled if he’s asleep. But he hasn’t shown any of those signs here.”
If you are interested in meeting BJ you can contact the shelter. Also, the shelter has a comedy show fundraiser coming up on January 6th. All of the proceeds will go to help animals like BJ. You can contact the shelter at 740-452-1077.
