27th annual Singspiration celebrates the Life of MLK Jr.

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Just less than 24 hours away from the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a local library hosted a free event to help celebrate his legacy.
Sunday, The Muskingum County John McIntire library hosted the 27th annual Singspiration to honor the life of Dr.King and his legacy.
“We’re having a Singspiration and several of choirs in the community are singing and they do this every year during this weekend that we celebrate the life of Dr. King and I’ll be talking about somethings relative to Dr. King,” said Keynote Speaker, Anita Jackson.
Some may view Martin Luther King Jr. day as another day off from work. However, Singspiration Choir Coordinator, Carlotta Workman stresses the importance of honoring a man who gave his life to cultivating change.
“We need to stress the importance of this day, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday because many people see it as a day off from work, a day off from school, a vacation day. Take time to remember the man, his mission, what he stood for, what he meant to all of us and the many many activities he went through. If we don’t learn from our history, we are doomed to repeat it,” said Workman.
Anita Jackson says events like these are very inspiring and remind us why we honor the legacy that Dr. King left for us.
“It’s very inspiring, it helps us to really take a look at the legacy that Dr. King has left for us and to keep struggling and marching on and moving forward to fulfill the legacy that he’s set before us,” said Dr. Jackson.
As we head into Martin Luther King Dr. day tomorrow, take time to honor his life and legacy that still lives on today.
