Women of Achievement is accepting nominations for awards

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Women of Achievement Awards is coming up soon and it’s time to submit nominees for the awards.
For 30 years, Women of Achievement have been honoring women across the county for their accomplishments. The Muskingum County Women of Achievement Selection Committee is now accepting nominations for the award. Christine Shaw, Chairperson of the Selection Committee, said the organization has honored hundreds of women over the years.
“We have celebrated more than 200 women in the last 30 years and we’re really excited about this being our 30th year. And we want to encourage the past recipients to come back and to nominate people for the 2018 awards.”
Shaw said there are different categories women can be nominated for.
“There are 7 categories. We have the business, education, health care, professions, special recognition, young adult, and the bright futures. And then we do have another category that is kind of reserved for a women who really exemplifies a lifetime of service. That one is not necessarily nominated for, but what we try to do is look at the nominations as we receive them and make a determination on whether or not that particular award will be awarded.”
Shaw said this award is very important for women and there is certain criteria that must meet to be nominated. Some of those qualifications include: being a role model for women, having an impact on others, and having unique and exemplary contributions.
“Women over the years have continued to achieve at home and at work and in the community. And being a good role model is really critical for future women of achievement. So we’re really excited about the opportunity to celebrate those women, what they do and how they contribute to the community.”
Nominations must be submitted by February 7th to be considered for the awards. The award ceremony will take place April 11th. Applications can be found on the Muskingum Family Y, Zane State College, or Ohio University Zanesville websites. It can also be directly downloaded from: www.zanestate.edu/woa.
