The Zanesville Muskingum County Health department said it investigated a report of a dog in the food service area of McDonald’s in Dresden on Saturday.

It was brought in by an off-duty employee.

Department officials said on Sunday morning it asked the restaurant to provide an in-service training to explain to all employees the policy of the facility.

Public Information Officer Jennifer Hiestand said no animals are permitted in the kitchen and only service animals are permitted in the dining area.

Hiestand said the health department received a list of corrective action completed by McDonald’s including voluntarily closing the facility, discarding exposed food and providing a thorough cleaning.

The incident resulted in a citation from the health department.
