Preparing for the upcoming storm
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Southeast Ohio is expecting between 2 and 5 inches of snow along with some ice from Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Sunrise Do-It Center Store Manager Dennis Baldwin said due to the snow, and possibility of black ice, drivers should take extra caution while out on the roads. He said the roads are expected to be slippery and drivers should be looking for any type of traction they can get.
“A product called tube sand, it’s sand in a tube that got a heavy duty plastic coating on the outside where it doesn’t puncture so easily. So, you can put that in the trunk of your car or the back of your truck. You can use kitty litter. You can use all-purpose sand to give you traction while walking an item that’s like clothes that you strap on your shoes. Which will give you traction if you’re walking on ice,” said Baldwin.
Baldwin said the cold temperatures do more than just freeze the road. He said the cold temperatures can also freeze pipes in homes. He said there are multiple ways to prevent pipes freezing.
“Heat tapes, which you can plug in. They’re thermostatically controlled. Whenever it gets so cold they kick on. You should also wrap it with insulation, which is pipe insulation. If you have it in a space like your basement or something that just might but not normally you can foam insulation. Which is a piece of foam, that’s split, that slips around the pipe,” said Baldwin.
