Going to School on Saturday

Two area school districts will be making up their calamity days on Saturdays.

Newark City Schools will hold classes this Saturday, February 20th. The district’s business manager, Dave Altepeter, says parents already knew certain Saturdays could be used to make-up calamity days. It was put in the school’s calendar at the beginning of the academic year. He says this decision helps to not mess up summer vacation or the high school commencement ceremony.

Morgan Local Schools will also be holding classes on Saturday, February 20th, and Saturday, March 6th. Superintendent Lori Snyder-Lowe says going to school on a Saturday is in the students’ best interests. She says attendance is usually higher before June and it helps prepare students for state testing.

The state allows all school districts to use five calamity days before having to make them up.
