The Fieldhouse is accepting nominations for annual awards
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local fitness facility is accepting nominations for Southeastern Ohio Scholar Athlete of the Year, Courage in Athletics Award, and Coach of the Year.
The Fieldhouse Family Sports and Wellness Center’s Owner and Founder Mick Amicone said they’ve been giving the Southeastern Ohio Scholar Athlete of the Year Award for 18 years.
“We’ll be offering about $3,000 in scholarships to area students,” Amicone said. “A teacher, administrator, or a parent can nominate a child and it needs to be accompanied by a number of recommendations that would support those four criteria. Academics, athletic participation, community service, and then most importantly the faith-based opportunities that this person has got themselves involved with.”
For 16 years WHIZ Media Group and The Fieldhouse Foundation have been providing the Courage in Athletics Award to students on behalf of Seth Dille a previous Morgan County soccer and track athlete who later played soccer in the U.S. Paralympics.
“That $500 scholarship goes to any special need individual within Southeastern Ohio high school districts that may have gone above and beyond most able-bodied athletes,” Amicone said. “So we want to honor that student for their dedication.”
With the help of Genesis Healthcare System, Century National Bank, and Williamson Insurance Services deserving students will receive the scholarships for further education.
“Well over those 18 years we are incredibly blessed to contribute almost $50,000 to help students continue their education throughout southeastern Ohio,” Amicone said. “Whether they’re staying here locally and going part-time or whether they’re trying to get a $1,000 because books are so expensive at the next level. Anything can help.”
The Fieldhouse is also awarding adults who have been coaching for over ten years.
“Coach of the year is very simple athletic administrators, principals, superintendents can nominate those coaches or any community member can nominate those coaches,” Amicone announced. “We want no self-nominations, we want to take the ego out of this and we want to let those nominations come in based on the value of other people telling us about those people that they are nominating.”
The nomination deadline is April 1, 2018. For more information or nomination requests go to The Fieldhouse’s website, Zanesvillefieldhouse.com or for the Courage in Athletic’s Award contact WHIZ Media Group at (740) 452-5431 and ask for Jeannine Berry.
