Perry Co. officials discuss school threats

NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio– Perry County officials met Thursday to address the recent threats made on social media to the county’s schools.

In a release, Sheriff William Barker said that a Facebook profile with the name “Ray Andres” had a threat posted about ‘SHS’ school that circulated throughout Ohio and neighboring states. That threat has been deemed to be not credible. Barker said Springfield Police Department, in Springfield, Ohio, made an arrest of a juvenile in relation to those posts.

Sheriff Barker also said the New Lexington Police Department is investigating the Facebook profile with the name “Robert Adkins.” They are working to identify the origin of the post that also circulated in Fairfield County.

Authorities are urging residents to report concerns or any suspicious activities to law enforcement, and to stay diligent and refrain from posting rumors and gossip on social media outlets.
