World Spay Day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- It’s World Spay Day and the Animal Shelter Society is offering reduced cost surgeries for felines.
Shelters across the country held events to encourage owners to get their pets spayed. Here at home the Animal Shelter had a Spay Palooza just for cats. Around 40 cats were scheduled to be spayed.
“We focus today mainly on cats because there’s such an overpopulation of cats in our area. We stay full most of the time. So obviously whenever you have a program that will reduce that we’re going to try to be a part of that.”
This is the third spay neuter event the shelter has held this year. They’ve performed 120 surgeries already and anticipate doing a lot more. Murray said this event is a good opportunity for those who have become the caregivers for stray cats.
“Lots of areas will end up with a feral community of cats and there are so many good Samaritans out there that will kind of..take them under their wings, feed them, will trap them, get them spayed and neutered to try to stop that cycle.”
Murray said the shelter will have more events like this throughout the year and you can stay up to date on their events by following their Facebook page.
