ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Muskingum County residents affected by the recent floods may be eligible for flood relief assistance.

The Muskingum County Job and Family Services director said Muskingum County was declared a state of emergency during the recent floods and has received funds to assist residents who experienced flooding due to the heavy rainfall during the week of February 19th. Those impacted are now able to fill out an application to see if they qualify for the funds.

“We received some funding for families that have children and the home and that are living at 200% of the poverty level,” said Troy McCollister the Director of Job and Family Services. “We can help offset any loses that they had due to the heavy rainfall or flooding. We also have some funds for those that are 55 and older and don’t have children living in the home, but are also living at that 200% of poverty level.”

Residents who want to apply for the funds will need to provide proof of income for the last 30 days and proof of their loss. The funds will cover loss of food, clothing, appliances, and more.

“Households with children in them under the age of 19 we can help up to $1500 and for the families that do not have children and are 55 and older we could help up to $750,” said McCollister.

Families have until close of business March 14th to submit an application. Funds will be released as the paperwork is completed and verified. You can call Job and Family Services for more information at 740-454-0161.
