Rotary Rose fundraiser
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Zanesville Rotary Club is helping people make someone’s day as well as benefit the community.
Both Daybreak and Noon Rotarians are selling roses to raise money to give right back to the local community. Zanesville Rotary President Don Mason said the net proceeds go to benefit local charities and projects across the city.
“Those proceeds fund all the projects we do across the city. So if you like some of the projects we do, such as every spring, starting with last year, we provide food to some of the children before they go home for Easter break. Additionally, we fund projects that involve Starlight schools,” said Mason.
Mason said the tradition has been going on for over 50 years. He said the flowers can make someone feel special and roses are something rarely given throughout the year.
“Roses were originally picked 50 years ago because of this time of year, there was an abundance of roses out there and again most people didn’t buy roses other than maybe on Valentine’s day. So, it became our annual project and it’s been something that many people look forward to every year and actually sometimes the only roses a person gets every year is through our funding,” said Mason.
If you would like to buy roses, you can contact anyone involved with Zanesville Rotary Club. Flowers cost $20 a dozen. Mason said they are hoping to raise $10-12,000.
