Zanesville Museum of Art hosts monthly art class
ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A local museum is educating children on culture and history through hands on classes about a variety of art forms.
Saturday’s art class was filled with both children and their parents as they we’re taken through the history of Japanese art.
“Today we’re learning about Japan. We’re like folding papers to make different kind of animals and flowers. Well…I didn’t ever do this before but I think I like folding it this the most that I got to do,” said participant, Emma Graham.
With a passion for the arts and historicity, Education Coordinator, Misty Johnson said it’s critical that children have access to art education at an early age.
“We’re headed into a really busy season here at The Zanesville Museum of Art. We have art education opportunities for kids of all ages and as you can see, there’s always something going on, it’s always busy here. What we’re really excited about is the transition that we’re going through right now. We’re really starting to focus on children’s programming because we realize how critical having access to art education is at a young age,” said Johnson.
With art being another form of self expression, Mom, Maura Mantell said the class has been a great way for her daughter to interact with other children her age.
“Well, she seems to really art. We actually home school her so it’s a really great way for her to interact with the kids and sit in a classroom style setting of an art class. It’s great. The teachers are wonderful in there and the kids all seem to really engage and enjoy it. I think it’s a great way to give back to the community and to see what Zanesville has to offer,” said Mantell.
