Gary Allen’s Appliance Repair to close, owner retires

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A local repairman is retiring after 22 years on the job.
Gary Allen of Gary Allen’s Appliance Repair has decided to close shop after serving the Zanesville area. Allen specialized in warranty work for Whirlpool, Maytag, and Frigidaire appliances as well as heating and cooling. He said it’s sort of like a family business.
“It goes way back to my father. My father was one of the first appliance repair people and he had Lauren’s Appliance Repair so I kind of followed in his steps 18 years later,” said Allen. “And at one time my dad and I were in competition. That’s how much appliance work was in Zanesville at one time.”
Allen said he knew it was time to say goodbye as trends in the business began to change. He said the one thing he’ll miss the most is the interaction he had with his customers.
“You kind of miss it because I liked to talk to my customers and get a really good one on one relationship with your customers that you see on a pretty regular basis usually,” said Allen.
Allen also once owned a retail store on 6th street for a few years.
